In recent Glasgow Derbies, we had seen Celtic struggle to produce results. Even though this Rangers team has been poor for a long time, when the Hoops came up against them, they somehow struggled to control games. Perhaps it was down to Brendan Rodgers' tactics, which did not suit the side, because did not have no such problems yesterday at Hampden Park.
Admittedly, Celtic were wasteful in front of goal. That allowed the Rangers to take it to extra time despite being down to ten men for the majority of the match. Of course, there is a lot of controversy around the penalty that they were awarded, which allowed them to do that.
On the other hand, there were other debatable decisions on the day as well. One of them was the yellow card shown to Auston Trusty, which some believe could have been a red.
If you ask us, it was a needless foul. Perhaps Trusty had anticipated that Jack Butland would lose grip of the ball and was playing for a rebound. But that being said, it was soft as well. We feel that showing a yellow card was the right decision, as there did not seem any malice behind it. The Ibrox club appear to have other ideas though.
Rangers make controversial decision after losing to Celtic
As reported by The Rangers Review, Rangers will seek a formal explanation from the Scottish FA. It is regarding the decision not to send off Trusty for his foul on Butland.
To Celtic fans, this will sound like a familiar story. Whenever things do not go the Rangers' way in Glasgow Derbies, they seem to be seeking explanations for one thing or another.
It won't change the result of the game though. Despite their poor start to the season, Celtic have booked their place in the Scottish League Cup final, where they will take on St Mirren.
