One of the things that Celtic need to keep an eye on right now is the Rangers' ownership situation. It looks like the Ibrox club are on the verge of a takeover by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises. It goes without saying that their supporters are expecting big things after constantly seeing the Hoops win trophies, while they generally finish campaigns without silverware.
It remains to be seen how much of a difference new ownership can actually make for the Rangers. One cannot forget that the club post significant losses pretty much every year as things stand and will still need work under FFP rules.
One of the big changes that the new owners are expected to make is the manager. Barry Ferguson is the interim boss right now but is not expected to be handed the job on a permanent basis.
Over the past few weeks and months, we have seen the Rangers being linked with some pretty high-profile names. Jose Mourinho is one that comes to mind immediately and would make Celtic fans take notice. But it looks like the most recent one in running for the Ibrox job is a lot more underwhelming that the Portuguese icon.
Rangers fans told underwhelming manager 49ers want to stop Celtic
As reported by TEAMtalk, Rangers are among the clubs hoping to appoint Danny Rohl as manager amid uncertainty over his future at Sheffield Wednesday. He is on the list of the new owners, who are seeking a manager to lead the Scottish club.
Rohl has done a decent job at Sheffield Wednesday over the past two seasons. He came in when they looked like relegation contenders.
Last season, his side finished 20th, avoiding the drop. This time around, they have finished 12th. But despite that, this is not the type of appointment Rangers would have been hoping for.
