With just ten league games left to be played this season, it is pretty safe to say that Celtic are in the driver's seat and then some. The Hoops have a significant lead over the Rangers, who have stumbled all campaign and recently decided to part ways with Philippe Clement and brought in Barry Ferguson as the club's interim head coach until the summer, when a long-term appointment is expected to be made.
One would imagine that Ferguson will get a chance to make a case for himself as well. Until now, he had not managed at the top level.
Ferguson's previous spells have come at Kelty Hearts, Alloa Athletic and Clyde. It is safe to say that Brendan Rodgers will not be particularly concerned about that resume when the two sides meet later in this season.
When Celtic and the Rangers meet, there will be away fans present. That has been officially announced and the news has been welcomed by even Ferguson. As reported by The National, the interim head coach said:
"Good to hear our fans will be at Celtic Park - it is something the fixture has missed.
"In an ideal world, there would be more, but I'm just glad our fans will be in the stadium."
Rangers boss Barry Feguson happy with Celtic announcement
Of course, Celtic will be seeking to get the better of the Rangers the next time the two teams meet, as they always do. But it is even more important on this occasion.
Not just because the Hoops want to put the title race mathematically beyond the Rangers as soon as possible. They will also want to put the memories of the recent 3-0 defeat at Ibrox behind them.
What better way to do that than by winning the very next Glasgow Derby. And it is safe to say that this team is very capable of doing that. They have a fantastic record against the Rangers in recent years and the 3-0 result at Ibrox was a major upset to say the very least.
