Well, that was quick. Rangers have now officially announced that they have sacked Russell Martin as the manager of the club after the club failed to meet expectations. He only lasted 123 days in the job and will go down as one of the worst appointments in the Ibrox club's history. Celtic fans would have been hoping to see him in charge for a while longer but it was not to be.
Martin had been in charge of the Rangers earlier today as he oversaw a 1-1 away draw against Falkirk. And while it had been suggested in the recent past that the club were behind the manager, their patience ran out just a few weeks later.
This is the worst possible start to the 49ers era. Their first managerial appointment ended up being completely wrong. Now, Celtic are nine points ahead of them in the title race, even though Brendan Rodgers' side have been completely out of form themselves.
The big question is, was the bad start to the season down to Martin's coaching? Or do the Rangers not have a capable team in place at Ibrox? Celtic fans will be hoping that it is the latter.
Rangers announce Russell Martin sacking, Celtic fans react
Naturally, Celtic fans were quick to react to the news of Martin's sacking. One wrote: "Thanks for the memories Russell. Another manager seen off by Brendan Rodgers."
Another shared a similar sentiment, writing: "Thanks for the memories, Russell, you will be sorely missed."
It remains to be seen who the Rangers bring in next to replace Martin. It is not an attractive job at the moment, that is for sure.
This is the fourth straight season in which the Rangers have sacked their manager. Nobody seems to be getting the job done at Ibrox. And at some point, it is not about the head coach.
There seem to be bigger problems at the club. Of course, Celtic have their own, and that should be the focus for them right now.
