This upcoming January transfer window is going to be a very important one for Celtic and the club's new manager, Wilfried Nancy. The performance in the Frenchman's debut against Hearts showed the holes that remain in this squad. They will need to be filled as soon as possible if the Scottish champions want to retain their domestic crown.

The easiest way to do that would be to sign some quality players in the upcoming summer transfer window. But at the same time, there will be those who will be eyeing the exit door as well.

There are some who simply are not being given enough playing time right now. One such player is none other than Paulo Bernardo.

Signed from Benfica after a solid loan spell, Bernardo has lost his place in Celtic's plans somewhere down the line. So, it might be best for the Portuguese midfielder to leave and try to bring his career back on track at a club where he will get plenty of opportunities. As reported by Glasgow World, Scott Allan said the Scottish Football Podcast:

"The one that comes to mind would be Paulo Bernardo.

“I think a player, and I like Paolo Bernardo as a player, but U21s captain of Portugal last season. He has got quality but he just hasn't had the minutes. He would be one where you would expect they could pull in a transfer fee for because he does have quality. I wouldn't imagine a player of that calibre who would want to just sit and be a bit part player."

It would be safe to say that Bernardo has shown in the past that he has the ability to contribute for Celtic in meaningful games. That being said, one also cannot ignore that he has never been able to establish himself as a starter at the club.

Perhaps that is never going to happen. At the end of the day, as time has progressed, he has slipped further down the pecking order.

So, it might be best for both parties if there is a change of scenery. Do not be surprised if Bernardo heads for the exit in the winter window.
