Celtic have a couple of high-profile and proven strikers right now in the form of Kyogo and Adam Idah. Unfortunately, neither seems to be at their best though. The Japanese international has never performed at his peak since Brendan Rodgers replaced Ange Postecoglou. On the other hand, the Irishman has had a stop-start campaign as well.
As a result, the idea of signing another striker is not a bad idea for Celtic. Daniel Cummings, currently signing at the youth level for the Hoops, and Johnny Kenny, who had a fantastic loan spell with Shamrock Rovers, could be potential options. But the club could look elsewhere as well.
Evan Ferguson is someone who has been linked with a move to Celtic recently. He has struggled to get into the Brighton & Hove Albion team recently.
Not too long ago, he was considered a potential £100 million striker. But now, his future at Brighton & Hove Albion seems to be in doubt. A loan move to Celtic would make sense on paper and might help him develop as a player. But it looks like not everybody would want to see Ferguson make the move to Parkhead.
Premier League striker told to reject Celtic move
As reported by The Scotsman, Don Goodman said:
"He's an Irish lad who has previously admitted Celtic are his favourite Scottish team.
"That could be a little carrot which makes him consider a move to Parkhead. European football would also be an attraction. But would it be enough for him after being linked with some of the best clubs in the world previously?
"While the European nights are brilliant, the rest of it, aside from Rangers and maybe Aberdeen, is easy. I say that with the utmost respect and as someone who played in the Scottish Premiership. I'm not criticising it, those are just levels when compared to the Premier League.
"It would be huge if Celtic could somehow persuade him to sign for them and he would score bundles of goals. I'm just not sure it would be a wonderful career move."
A move to Celtic could turn out brilliantly for Ferguson. But at the same time, it is also possible that he does not end up getting the game time that he is looking for.
That has to be the priority for him at this point in time, after struggling for playing time at Brighton. So, it would not be a bad idea for him to take a step down to a team where he would be a guaranteed starter. Could Celtic be that club for him? Most probably not with so many trophies up for grabs.
