Celtic star Benjamin Nygren has been backed for a big move by a fellow countryman as he begins to improve his performances.
Nygren enjoyed a superb season of last, finishing the campaign as Celtic's top scorer from the attacking midfield spot. That saw him called up for Sweden's World Cup team, but he didn't enjoy the best of times in North America.
Upon his return to club football, Nygren has found the net and produced good numbers, so far scoring eight and providing six assists across all competitions.
But there has been a concern that too often, whether Nygren provides goal contributions or not, he is not having a big enough say overall in games, especially not for a player of his ability.
At 25 years of age, he is unlikely to be the finished article, and to Nygren's credit, in the last two games, he has done a much better job of getting more involved, showing more willingness to get on the ball in different areas.
Being more consistent in that area could be key for Nygren, who is likely to be the next big name out of the club amid likely interest elsewhere.
Nygren backed for big move
On that topic, former Sweden international Anders Limpar has been talking up Nygren's chances of landing a top move down South.
As cited by the Daily Record, he said: “Benjamin Nygren is good enough to play in the Premier League, and you can see that he’s still knocking them in for Celtic for fun. It would be stupid for clubs in the Premier League to not buy him this summer.
“Man United at the moment are struggling. Really, really struggling. Liverpool are struggling at the moment. Everton are not struggling, but they need quality forwards like Nygren.
“There are a few clubs he can actually choose from that haven’t got a good winger/forward.
So, all the Premier League clubs should be looking at this guy, because he’s going to come cheap and he’s a hell of a player.”
Realistically speaking, Nygren isn't landing a top six move in the Premier League. He has provided consistent numbers in the Scottish Premiership, but the top end of the Premier League is completely new level, and Nygren could have helped himself by producing on the big level at the World Cup over the summer.
Having said that, a mid-table Premier League club could be realistic, especially if he can start producing in Europe or on the international stage.
