Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen have arguably been the story of the season in European football. When the Spaniard had joined the club in the previous campaign, they were looking like relegation contenders. This time around, they won the Bundesliga, bringing an end to Bayern Munich's streak of being German champions. And now, it looks like the club have their eye on a Celtic player.

It is very difficult to give opportunities to youngsters at Celtic. That is because the manager is under pressure to win almost every match.

Still, Brendan Rodgers handed a few opportunities to Daniel Kelly this season. And the youngster certainly impressed in the limited time that he was given to show what he was capable of. That seems to have been enough to catch the eye of Bayer Leverkusen.

As reported by Football Scotland, Kelly is considered a serious talent for his age group and Bayer Leverkusen are hoping to reach a deal. However, the feeling inside the club is that they believe they can have successful talks and convince the youngster to continue at Parkhead.

Kelly does not have a long-term contract with Celtic. So, the club need to be quick when it comes to agreeing an extension with him.

Kelly is a fantastic talent for sure. So, it would be beneficial for Celtic if he remains at the club for the foreseeable future.

It has been quite some time since we saw a player come through the youth ranks at Celtic and become a regular starter at the first-team level. Kelly does seem to have the potential to do that. Of course, he will have to remain at Parkhead for at least a few more years to get to that level, with the level of competition in midfield.
