Coming into the January transfer window, Celtic were expected to strengthen the squad. Contrary to expectations, they have seemed more focused on outgoings than incomings though. In fact, so far, Nicolas Kuhn remains the only player to join the club this month while the arrival of Adam Idah, on loan from Norwich City, is believed to be only a matter of time.
On the other hand, we already saw one winger leave the club recently, as Marco Tilio returned to Melbourne City FC on loan for the rest of the campaign. And now, it looks another player is set to join him out the exit door.
Mikey Johnston has gotten some chances lately. He has impressed at times but overall, not done enough to win a place in Brendan Rodgers' starting XI.
And now, he is set to head out of Parkhead again. As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, West Brom are set to sign Johnston on loan until the end of the season.
West Brom set to sign Celtic player on Deadline Day
Johnston has been considered one of the brightest talents to come out of the Celtic youth system in recent years. But he has never quite managed to match expectations since making the jump to the senior game.
He spent the previous campaign out on loan at Vitoria SC and had a decent time in Portugal. Now, it remains to be seen how he does in England.
It does feel like this was his last chance to have a career at Celtic though and he was not able to make the most of it. It is very possible that he could depart the club next summer. Of course, things can change. If Johnston ends up signing at West Brom, it might open up another window of opportunity at Parkhead.
