Video: Wayne Rooney receives special gift from Celtic
Wayne Rooney got back on the pitch this weekend, as he took part in a Legends game between Manchester United and Celtic. The Englishman is the highest goalscorer in the history of the Old Trafford club and their fans got to witness him put the ball in the back of the net once again on the afternoon, scoring a wonderful free-kick.
Rooney's heroics were not enough to seal the win for the Manchester United legends. It is their Celtic counterparts who emerged winners after penalties.
Of course, the result never mattered in this match. It was to raise money for a good cause and fortunately, that was achieved. At the same time, it was good to see so many legends back on the pitch.
Rooney has admitted in the past to having followed the Hoops while growing up and he clearly has a soft spot for the club. On Celtic TV, he was gifted with a famous green-and-white jersey with 'Rooney 10' on the back and the Englishman seemed delighted with it. You can watch the video below:

Rooney is the highest scorer in Manchester United history, with 253 goals to his name. Just to think of the number of greats who have represented the club over the years. To be top of that list is quite an achievement for sure.
He was the all-time highest goalscorer for the England national team as well. That record now belongs to Harry Kane though and the Bayern Munich striker has a few more years at least to increase his lead at the top.
In the past, Rooney has mentioned how he would have liked to play for Celtic. Unfortunately, it never happened for one reason or another. We can only wish him the best of luck as he tries to find success in management and is at Plymouth Argyle.
