With just days left in the January transfer window, Celtic have only made on addition this month so far. Nicolas Kuhn has been brought in from Rapid Vienna for a fee believed to be around £3 million and he made his debut against Ross County, coming as a substitute. The Hoops need more reinforcements though.

They struggled for consistency, both performance-wise and in results, in the first half of the season. And their display against Ross County convinced nobody that things had gotten any better.

The club could certainly do with another striker right now. Sydney van Hooijdonk is someone they have been heavily linked with over the last few days.

Interestingly, an old tweet from Van Hooijdonk has gone viral. It is a picture of a television with a game on, accompanied by the caption 'COME ON CELTIC' and three green heart emojis. It was posted in February of 2022, so not too long ago at all.

Of course, for those unaware, Van Hooijdonk already has a prior connection with Celtic. His father, Pierre, played for the club back in the mid-90s and to quite some success as well, at least on an individual level. He enjoyed a 32-goal campaign while representing the Hoops.

It remains to be seen whether Van Hooijdonk follows in his father's footsteps and ends up at Celtic. It is worth pointing out that rumours have emerged that Bologna are ready to let him leave on loan this month.

Van Hooijdonk shined out on loan at Heerenveen last season, scoring 19 goals. But he has struggled to break into Bologna's team and another temporary spell away from the club could be on the cards. Will he end up at Celtic before the close of the January transfer window?
