Steven Gerrard might have spent several years managing the Rangers, but it looks like the Liverpool legend does have a bit of a knack for signing former Celtic players. It was not too long ago that Al-Ettifaq signed Moussa Dembele. And now, it looks like another Hoops hero is on the verge of joining the club.

That player is none other than Jota. The Portuguese winger left Celtic last summer in order to join Al-Ittihad in a £25 million move, a joint Scottish record.

Unfortunately for Jota, his time at Al-Ittihad has not been anything to write home about. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 25 appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals and providing 1 assist.

Admittedly, he has been playing a lot more regularly in recent months. But despite that, it looks like a move to Al-Ettifaq is on the cards for the Celtic treble hero.

As reported by the Daily Record, several reports in Saudi state that the deal for Jota has already been struck with Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq for next season. It will reportedly be a loan move when the season kicks off again.

For a long time, Jota was linked with a return to Europe. But it never ended up materialising for one reason or another.

It looks like his future lies in Asia for the time being, although not at Al-Ittihad. A move to Al-Ettifaq would give Jota a chance to start afresh and bring his career back on track. There is no doubt about his talent. He just needs to be in the right environment to succeed.

Jota might not have been at Celtic Park for a long time. But he quite certainly had a positive impact on the club and we can only wish him the best in whatever his next career step turns out to be.
