Celtic fans have not had a lot to cheer in recent times. They have seen the Hoops struggle for both performances and results, recently falling behind the Rangers in the title race. It is easy to forget that they were cruising their way to the league title early on in the season. Of course, there are still plenty of games left to be played including a couple of Glasgow Derbies. The fate of the Premiership is still far from being sealed.

Celtic need to go on a good run of form till the end of the season. That is easier said than done though, especially when you consider the number of key players out injured.

One such player is Callum McGregor. It is still unclear how long the captain will be out of action for and the hope is that he will be back available after the international break.

The absence of McGregor has allowed Daniel Kelly to get some playing time lately. The Celtic B team standout seems to have impressed Brendan Rodgers and looks set to be handed a contract extension.

As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, Celtic are close to agreeing a new deal for Kelly. It’s understood a four-year contract extension is being discussed.

Kelly has been drawing the interest of some top clubs recently. The likes of Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are rumoured to have been keeping an eye on the midfielder, as have several teams in England. So, if Celtic are able to agree an extension with him, it would have to be seen as a major coup on their part.

It has been quite some time since a player has made it through the club's youth system and become a first-team regular. Hopefully, Kelly can manage to do it.
