This has been a transfer window filled with twists and turns if you are a Celtic supporter. Ahead of it, the club were expected to strengthen significantly following a disappointing run of form. Instead, only one signing has been made and in a position which was not in particular need of reinforcements. Most of the focus appears to have been on outgoings instead.

Coming into the new year, one player who looked absolutely certain to leave Celtic was Rocco Vata. The youngster had been a standout performer for B Team but that had not resulted in any chances for the senior side since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers as manager in the summer.

Vata is in the final six months of his contract as well, which makes the situation further complicated for Celtic. And there had been suggestions that he was in talks with a few Italian clubs over a move.

Things have taken a dramatic twist over the past week or so though. Vata was given his first senior appearance of the season, against Buckie Thistle. And he did not take long to make a point, scoring his first goal for Celtic. Now, it looks like his situation off the pitch has undergone some transformation as well.

As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, Celtic have begun contract talks for Vata. The club’s hierarchy have opened discussions with his representatives at CAA Base to discuss the possibility of extending his stay in Glasgow. He is believed to be keen on staying, if the right pathway arises.

Vata has always been viewed as someone with the talent to be a regular in the senior team. If he ended up extending his contract, it would be considered a boost for the club.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Vata. Could he get more chances in upcoming games too?
