Sky Sports man confirms Celtic talks over deal for £6.5m player
It has not been long since the 2023/24 season and Celtic finished it on a high, winning the Premiership and Scottish Cup double. At certain points of the campaign, it had looked like Brendan Rodgers's side were going to struggle to win any silverware. But they stepped up to the plate when it matterd the most and got the job done.
The expectation is that Celtic will strengthen their squad further over the course of the summer transfer window. Calls have been made for experience and proven quality to be brought in for quite some time now.
Interestingly, it might be just as important to keep the core of this squad together. And one player who did well in the 23/24 season is Paulo Bernardo, who was on loan from Benfica.
It remains to be seen whether Celtic are successful in signig him on a permanent basis this summer. They do seem to be interested in making it happen but for the right transfer fee.
Sky Sports man confirms Celtic talks over deal for £6.5m player
As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, Celtic are in talks with Benfica over a deal for Bernardo this summer. The option-to-buy in his loan deal is around £6.5 million, but discussions are taking place over potentially lowering that fee. The player is keen after being told that he is not in the Portuguese club's first-team plans.
Considering the circumstances, Celtic should be able to get a deal done if they really want to. Now, it remains to be seen what kind of a transfer fee it would take to sign Bernardo permanently from Benfica.
While he did well, he was not a regular starter. Thus, shelling out a £6.5 million fee on signing the Portuguese youth international would not make sense for the Hoops to be honest.
