Sky Sports man confirms Celtic interest in Scottish midfielder
Celtic's midfield was one of their strengths in the 2023/24 campaign, as they secured a Premiership and Scottish Cup double. But quite a few of their midfielders could potentially head for the exit door this summer, making it necessary for the Hoops to strengthen in the middle of the park, if that situation did end up becoming a reality.
Matt O'Riley's future at Celtic is uncertain. He has been linked with teams like Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United and more. So, it would not be a surprise if he departed in search of a new challenge in the summer.
Paulo Bernardo was a key contributor in the Celtic midfield last season as well. But he was only on loan from Benfica. Now, it remains to be seen if the club are able to sign him on a permanent basis. There is believed to be interest in doing so but also a desire to negotiate a transfer fee instead of meeting the buyout clause.
Odin Thiago Holm is also someone who could weigh up his options this summer. He arrived at Parkhead with a ton of expectations but has not featured much in Rodgers' side since then.
Sky Sports man confirms Celtic interest in Scottish midfielder
Amid all this, it looks like Celtic have their eyes on a midfielder currently playing for a rival Premiership team. And it is not the profile of player that the Hoops generally try to recruit.
As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, Celtic have been monitoring Dundee FC midfielder Luke McCowan. A number of MLS and English Championship sides are also interested in the 26-year-old.
McCowan enjoyed a solid campaign at Dundee FC but he is not the type of player Celtic usually try to sign. The midfielder is 26 years of age and has never even represented Scotland at the international level. So, if they did make such a move, it would show a change in the club's transfer policy.
