Celtic have had an interesting January transfer window so far. Just like the old times, they have left things late, as it looks like the Ange Postecoglou era was an exception and not the new norm. Hopefully, the Hoops will be able to make a few more additions to their squad this month but there do not seem to be any concrete rumours at the moment, which will worry the supporters.

On the other hand, there have been quite a few players who have departed, whether that be on loan or on a permanent basis. And plenty of others are being linked with moves away.

Rocco Vata is one such player, who has been linked with a Parkhead exit for a while. In fact, a move away seems inevitable for the youngster, who has not made a single appearance for the senior team since Brendan Rodgers' arrival as manager.

A number of Serie A clubs have been linked with him and Italy looks like Vata's most likely destination. But it suddenly appears that him leaving Celtic is not a foregone conclusion just yet.

As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, Celtic are planning new contract talks with Vata. The club remain open to offers but would like to open talks about the possibility of extending his stay beyond the summer.

It would be safe to say that this update has come completely out of the blue. For months, it had looked like Celtic were ready to part ways with Vata. That would be the only logical explanation behind why he has not gotten first-team chances despite being a standout performer for the B Team.

Despite the latest update, it feels unlikely that Vata would extend his contract at Celtic. There seems to be very little reason for him to do so to be completely honest.
