Celtic are set to break their transfer record to sign Arne Engels from FC Augsburg. It would be wrong to say that the Belgian midfielder was a household name before the Parkhead links started emerging but considering the club's level of interest in him, it does feel like they completely trust his talent and ability. Hopefully, he will be able to justify the fee if or when the move goes through.

It looks like Engels is not the only signing Celtic are looking to make before the end of deadline day. They are closing in on a deal for a centre-back as well. Someone that Cameron Carter-Vickers should already know pretty well.

As tweeted by Anthony Joseph, Celtic are close to agreeing a deal with Sheffield United for Auston Trusty. It’s understood that a deal worth up to £6 million is being discussed. Some details are still to be ironed out by the clubs.

Celtic have been heavily linked with Trusty for the past week or so now. Earlier in the summer, they had been linked with players like Jake Clarke-Salter, Dara O'Shea and more but those rumours led nowhere.

Celtic have seen a couple of their centre-backs leave this summer in the form of Yuki Kobayashi and Gustaf Lagerbielke. Hopefully, Trusty ends up having a much better time at Parkhead if he does end up joining the club.

Trusty was signed by Arsenal a couple of years back. He joined Sheffield United last summer, before ever making a senior appearance for the London club.

In between, he had a successful loan spell at Birmingham City as well. He is also an American international. And at 26 years of age, Trusty is entering his prime years as a footballer. Signing him would be smart for Celtic if he does fit the style of play.
