Sheffield United readying £8m bid for Celtic target
Celtic need to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks over the upcoming summer transfer window. Joe Hart will be retiring from the game and the Englishman had been the Hoops' number one between the posts for three seasons since arriving in 2021 from Tottenham Hotspur. It will not be easy to fill his shoes as a player and as a leader.
On the other hand, it is very possible that Benjamin Siegrist could seek a change of scenery as well. The Swissman has barely featured since joining the club in 2022, when Ange Postecoglou was the manager.
One of the goalkeepers Celtic have been linked with is Anthony Patterson of Sunderland. He turned 24 years of age earlier this month and is also rumoured to be drawing the interest of Liverpool. But it looks like it is a Premier League club headed for relegation who are preparing an offer for him.
As reported by The Sun, Sheffield United are planning an ambitious bid for Patterson. They will offer around £8 million for the goalkeeper.

It remains to be seen if Celtic end up making an offer of that magnitude for the Sunderland goalkeeper. If they do and are able to sign him, it would make Patterson one of the most expensive signings in the history of the club. The current record is the £9 million fee they shelled out to sign Odsonne Edouard.
It remains to be seen how things play out. But Sheffield United's interest in Patterson is not good news for Celtic or their summer plans.
Patterson has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship in recent times. So, it is not hard to understand why so many clubs appear to be interested in his signature, including Celtic and Liverpool.
