There is no questioning the success that Celtic have achieved in recent years. Except for the 2020/21 season, the Hoops have been pretty close to flawless. Yet, at Parkhead, there is always the need to get better, even when winning trebles feels like the norm and the exception. What is the next step in the club's development though?

There are certainly areas where Celtic can improve. Their record in Europe leaves a lot to be desired and they are not the greatest at recruitment either.

But perhaps Celtic's biggest issue right now is their inability to promote highly-rated youngsters to the senior team. The last one to successfully make that jump and become a regular starter for the club was a certain Kieran Tierney. It has been a while since then.

Celtic are always on the lookout for the brightest talents in Scotland. Unfortunately, one of them seems to have decided to join Arsenal instead.

Scottish defender to reject Celtic and join Arsenal

As reported by The Athletic, Callan Hamill of St Johnstone has turned down both Celtic and Rangers with a move to Arsenal next summer now expected. The Scottish defender has already travelled down to train with the English club's under-18 group twice.

It is not hard to understand why someone like Hamill would choose a move to Arsenal over Celtic. Firstly, the draw of the Premier League is undeniable. That is the dream of almost every footballer these days.

Secondly, Arsenal have a better record in recent years when it comes to promoting and developing youngsters. And as long as Celtic don't prove that they are capable of doing the same, it will be difficult for them to attract the best talents to Parkhead.

Just this summer, we have seen both Rocco Vata and Bosun Lawal leave the club permanently. There are question marks over the future of Daniel Kelly as well.
