We are almost half way into the January transfer window and Celtic have not signed a single player yet. That is contrary to how things had been built up in the media heading into the month, raising hopes that the Hoops would be very active when it came to strengthening the squad. So far, that has not happened. But things can change.

All indications suggest that Nicolas Kuhn will be Celtic's first signing of January. But there is one particular reason why the deal is not over the line yet.

No, it is not because the two clubs are struggling to agree to a transfer fee. Instead, it has to do more with Rapid Vienna replacing Kuhn.

As tweeted by Mark Hendry, it has always been about Rapid Vienna finding a replacement for Kuhn. Celtic know that and it is a waiting game but the feeling on both sides is that the player is likely to be in Glasgow next week.

Obviously, there has been quite a lot of debate about the decision to make a move for Kuhn as well. At the end of the day, Celtic have a lot of wingers and there are other positions which are in more urgent need of reinforcements.

Kuhn has showcased a lot of good qualities in his recent performances for Rapid Vienna though. If he can make the adjustment to Scottish football, the former Bayern Munich player could turn out to be a solid addition to this Celtic team.

One can only hope that the scouting team has got things right this time around. Their recent record has not been great to be honest. A deal for Kuhn is not over the line just yet but it looks like only a matter of time.
