After Rangers flop Kris Boyd warns Celtic about another club
As the Glasgow Derby earlier this month showed, there exists quite a gap between Celtic and the Rangers. The Hoops walked out of Parkhead with a 3-0 victory, a scoreline we have seen repeated many times in recent years. And it is hard to see how the Ibrox club will bridge that gap between the two teams anytime soon.
On the contrary, it feels like that gap might only be growing bigger. We are fresh off a 5-1 Celtic win in the Champions League in midweek over Slovan Bratislava.
It genuinely feels like the Hoops are improving in Europe under the management of Brendan Rodgers. And after a long time, there is a belief around Parkhead that qualification to the next phase of the competition is not out of reach, even if difficult.
On the other hand, there has been some talk about Tony Bloom potentially investing in Hearts. And Kris Boyd seems to be of the view that that is something that the two Glasgow giants should be worried about.
After Rangers flop Kris Boyd warns Celtic about another club
Boyd wrote in his column in The Scottish Sun:
"This may sound crazy, but I’m convinced if Bloom gets involved in Hearts then they could be challenging for the Premiership title in the coming years. I know that’s far-fetched to some folk.
Especially Celtic supporters who will believe their club is in a different stratosphere to everyone else in Scotland right now, both on the park and off it.
But Bloom is someone who doesn’t do things by half measures and if his Starlizard group have identified Hearts as a club with genuine potential then I’m prepared to believe there will be good reason for that."
One would expect Hearts to improve if Bloom did end up investing in the club. But that does not mean that they would start challenging Celtic and the Rangers anytime soon.
At the end of the day, Hearts are nowhere near the size of Celtic, or the Rangers. So, there are some financial constraints under which they will always have to work.
Of course, it would greatly increase their chances of establishing themselves as the third-best team in Scotland. But to be honest, that seems to be their ceiling.
It is not uncommon for football ownership groups to have stakes in multiple clubs. But that does not mean that all of them are equally successful. PSG and SC Braga, for example, have the same owners.
