Rangers fans angry at Philippe Clement's claims after losing to Celtic
Celtic won 3-0 at Parkhead against the Rangers in the first Glasgow Derby of the season. It was an excellent result for Brendan Rodgers' side, with Daizen Maeda, Kyogo and Callum McGregor finding the back of the net on the day. It also means that Philippe Clement has not managed a win in five tries against the Hoops.
Clement is someone who always likes to look at the silver lining. Even when there are not any to be found and its just a sky full of dark clouds.
This 3-0 defeat at the hands of Celtic proved to be one such occasion. Clement decided to talk about things like shots on target and ball possession after the game, something that not many Rangers fans were interested in hearing.
As reported by the Daily Record, Clement said after his side's defeat against Celtic at Parkhead:
"It would have helped the team a lot to go in front here. We did good things with the ball to create that, but we need to be more clinical in those moments. It was the same in the second half. Because at the end, Celtic had 14 shots, we had 13.
“They had four on target, we had four on target. But you lose 3-0. That's really a clear result, and a difference in efficiency. And of course, you give them a lot of confidence.
“If they come 1-0 in front and 2-0 in front, it's always easier to play. But ball possession was also equal today, 47-53, between the two teams."
Rangers fans angry at Philippe Clement's claims after losing to Celtic
Unsurprisingly, Celtic fans were amused by the comments made by Clement after such a significant defeat. Things like shots on target and possession matter very little when your side lose the Glasgow Derby by a 3-0 scoreline.
Take out the first few minutes of the game and at no point did the Rangers look like they were even close to causing Celtic trouble. It was one-sided a Glasgow Derby as one can remember and on another day, the Hoops would have scored more goals than the three they managed.
In fact, even the Rangers did not seem particularly interested in Clement's assessment of the game. And they let their feelings be known on social media.
It would be safe to say that Celtic fans will be delighted if the Rangers continue to be satisfied with shots on target rather than actual goals. Long may it continue.
