Rangers captain James Tavernier said to be spooked by Celtic player
Celtic finished the season without a single defeat against the Rangers, something that was surely an added bonus for the supporters on top of the Premiership and Scottish Cup double. The final game of the campaign was between the two Glasgow giants and a late goal from Adam Idah sealed a 1-0 win for Brendan Rodgers' team.
Of course, James Tavernier is someone who has been on the end of plenty of defeats against Celtic through the course of his Rangers Hall of Fame career. And some believe that he does not enjoy the task of dealing with Daizen Maeda.
Maeda was initially expected to miss the rest of the season after picking up an injury not too long ago. But he made somewhat of a miraculous recovery and started against the Rangers at Hampden Park, and ended up playing the entire match.
Maeda's presence certainly came as a boost for Celtic and not one for Tavernier. As reported by HITC, James McFadden said on BBC Sport:
"Every time they play, Maeda spooks Tavernier.
“There’s question marks over Tavernier defensively.
“That’s because he’s so good going forward. I don’t think he’s a bad defender, but Maeda has his number."

Maeda has certainly got quite a bit of joy when playing against Tavernier this season. And Celtic's results in those games speak for themself.
Maeda's game is about so much more than just goals though. His work rate is arguably his most important trait and Celtic play a lot better when he is in the team.
Maeda was a starter for Ange Postecoglou and some had doubted whether he would lose his place in the team following the arrival of Rodgers as manager. After all, he is not a conventional winger and his goalscoring record is solid but not fantastic. But instead of losing his spot, the Japanese international might now be more important to the Hoops than he has ever been.
