Brendan Rodgers has a lot of problems at Celtic right now and he needs to solve them as quickly as possible. Following their Scottish League Cup win, it is the Rangers who suddenly have all the momentum on their side while the Hoops have been stumbling for some time now. It is unbelievable that just a couple of months ago it was looking like the Bhoys would cruise their way to the league title and the only question was about how big the points gap between the two Glasgow sides.

Nothing should ever be taken for granted in football though. Unfortunately for many Celtic fans, they have learned that the hard way over the past couple of months.

This is not the time to look towards Ibrox though. The complete focus has to be on getting things back on track and right at Parkhead.

The summer transfer window has certainly proven to be filled with a series of mistakes on the part of Celtic. Other than Luis Palma, no other new signing has played regular minutes. And even the Honduran winger's place in the team is up in the air, following a number of uninspiring displays in recent weeks.

One summer signing who did make a major contribution recently is Gustaf Lagerbielke. The Swede scored the winner against Feyenoord, which was Celtic's first win in the Champions League since 2017 and first at Parkhead in over a decade.

Many fans had expected to see Lagerbielke get a run in the first-team after his European heroics. Instead, he was left out of the squad altogether in the very next match, against Hearts.

As reported by TBR Football, Hugh Keevins said on Clyde SSB:

"For me, Lagerbielke’s absence tells you Brendan Rodgers simply does not rate him.

“The whole team that was assembled on Wednesday night was out of necessity born of a squad that is not good enough.

“And I think Brendan Rodgers will be cleaning the place come January. Because it’s not good enough for Celtic.

“And Lagerbielke, the talk last night was Celtic will listen to offers for him."

Unfortunately, this is not a new problem for Celtic. There have been very few transfer windows in recent times which could be considered a grand success.

Ange Postecoglou's first season with the club was an exception rather than the norm. In his second season, the Hoops failed to strengthen once again. Only Alistair Johnston and Aaron Mooy were able to make a positive impact.
