Celtic need to sign some competition for Greg Taylor at left-back. The Scottish international's form has dripped since the departure of Ange Postecoglou as manager. His cover option is Alexandro Bernabei but the Argentine has never really impressed since his £3.75 million move from Lanus in the summer of 2022.

Tiago Araujo is someone who Celtic have been linked with in recent times. The 22-year-old Portuguese left-back came through the youth ranks at Benfica and currently plays for Estoril.

Celtic have had great luck lately when it comes to Benfica youth graduates. Jota became the club's superstar from Portugal and Paulo Bernardo is showing real quality after a slow start as well.

The rumours surrounding the left-back have gone a bit cold in recent weeks. As reported by O Jogo, Estoril's officials have not yet been contacted by Celtic and do not intend to part ways with Araujo for less than €4 million, especially because half of that will go to Benfica.

It remains to be seen if Celtic do end up making a move for Araujo this month or not. A €4 million transfer fee would be significant for a left-back of his experience.

To be very honest, most Celtic fans would like to see a more established and proven left-back being brought to the club. But despite how things turned out in the summer, it looks like the Hoops are ready to stick with their policy of signing 'project' players.

Considering Celtic's recent recruitment record, fans will not be filled with confidence regarding a move for someone like Araujo or Nicolas Kuhn of Rapid Vienna. That being said, it would be wrong to write someone's chances off before we even get to see them play in the Hoops.
