With Kasper Schmeichel joining Celtic in the summer, it is natural that his father, Peter, has taken a lot more interest in the Hoops this season. And so far, the Scottish club have given the Manchester United legend only positive things to say. That changed in midweek, as they lost 7-1 at the hands of Borussia Dortmund.

It must have been tough for Schmeichel, a former Champions League winner with Manchester United, to see his son concede seven times in a single game. But in the aftermath, he has taken a more realistic view of the result than most.

Celtic had won all nine of their games this season before the defeat against Borussia Dortmund. They have not conceded a single goal in league competition.

Schmeichel described the result as what it was 'a bad, bad day at the office' and reminded people of Celtic's good form this season. As reported by Glasgow World, when asked by Jamie Carragher on CBS about how it was watching his son in a game like that, the Manchester United legend said:

"As Callum McGregor said to me earlier, it was just one of those days and they couldn't get close enough to close that down.

"I spoke to Kasper as he came out of the game here and their dressing room is just there. I spoke to him and said this was a bad, bad day at the office and take it as nothing more. Move on, be one of the leaders in the dressing room and help everybody else recover from this. Because up until this point, don't forget, Celtic have played really, really good football and there is so much optimism at the club. Obviously they need to go through what happened and all that, but this was just a really, really bad day in the office."

That might be the only way to tackle this defeat, to be honest. Just take it as a bad day at the office and move on from it.

Of course, there are lessons to be learnt. The biggest is the need to adjust the approach in the Champions League. Going all out against top teams has worked sometimes at home, but it never has when away. Not against Real Madrid under the management of Ange Postecoglou. Not against Atletico Madrid last season. And not this time against Borussia Dortmund.

At the same time, it is also important not to overthink about this result and let it have an effect on upcoming games. Celtic cannot afford to let their shoulders drop. There is still a good chance that they can qualify for the playoff phase. Not every team is going to be Borussia Dortmund. They have winnable matches coming up and showed what they can do against Slovan Bratislava.
