Celtic have seen their best player leave this summer, with Matt O'Riley joining Brighton & Hove Albion. Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon sight for the club's fans. At this point, they are used to it. That does not make it any easier. And now, the Hoops need to find a way to replace him with merely days left in the transfer window. An unenviable task, to say the least.

Fans will be expecting Celtic to make a statement with their transfer business over the next few days. Could they do it by bringing back Odsonne Edouard?

The Frenchman's future at Crystal Palace is in doubt. As tweeted by Bobby Manzi, Celtic are interested in a reunion with Edouard.

Crystal Palace are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal. If he were to arrive, one would think that the London club would be open to the idea of Edouard leaving after three underwhelming seasons at Selhurst Park.

Amid the return rumours, some interesting comments from the Frenchman have reemerged. Earlier this year, Edouard was back in Glasgow as one of the former players invited as special guests to the Player of the Year awards. As reported by Football Scotland, when asked if he still follows the team's fortunes, he had said:

"Yeah, every game like a fan. And I'm happy about the win yesterday and I hope we will finish well and take the title."

It is always nice to see former players keeping up with the club even after leaving. Celtic is a special place and one would think that it is never easy to leave, and impossible to forget.

It remains to be seen if Celtic do indeed make a move for Edouard this summer. It feels pretty unlikely to be honest. But never say never in football. Let's see how things turn out from here.
