Norwich City hand £8m Adam Idah blow to Celtic
Adam Idah's future is one of the major talking points of this summer transfer window. When Celtic signed the Irishman on loan in the winter, most fans were disappointed and understandably so, considering his less than impressive goalscoring record at Norwich City. But the striker proved the doubters wrong and became a key player in Brendan Rodgers' side.
Idah scored 9 goals in the second half of the season for Celtic, even though he mostly played the role of an impact substitute. Not just that, he rose to the plate on the big occasions as well, scoring against the Rangers at Ibrox and also the winner in the Scottish Cup final.
Celtic did not have a buyout option included in Idah's loan deal. In hindsight, that has proven to be a major mistake.
When Idah was initially signed on loan in the winter, there had been suggestions that he would be available for a transfer fee around £3 million in the summer. But following his successful spell at Parkhead, it looks like Norwich City are now looking for a significantly higher figure than that.
Norwich City hand £8 million Adam Idah blow to Celtic
As reported by HITC, Idah is keen to return to Celtic but a deal is far from straightforward. Norwich City are believed to be looking for a transfer fee around £8 million and their new head coach is also keen to have a look at the striker in pre-season.
It is believed that Celtic are hopeful of getting a deal done for a transfer fee in the region of £5 million. But that might not be enough.
Signing Idah has to be near the top of Celtic's to-do list this summer. But at the same time, a £8 million transfer fee seems a bit too steep for a player who was not even the club's starting striker. For that kind of a figure, one has to imagine that better options would be available.
