Celtic will need to sign a goalkeeper or two in the summer transfer window. Joe Hart retired at the end of last season, leaving the first-team gloves vacant, having been the club's number one between the posts for the previous three campaigns. On the other hand, there are question marks around the future of Benjamin Siegrist, who has barely featured since arriving in 2022 and is believed to be keen to leave.

Naturally, Celtic have been linked with plenty of goalkeepers in recent weeks and months. One of them is Martin Dubravka of Newcastle United.

Dubravka played a decent bit of football for Newcastle United even last season. And it is believed that Celtic view him as someone who could play a similar role to Hart.

As reported by Football Insider, Newcastle United have told Dubravka that he is free to find a new club this summer. Celtic have registered an interest in signing him but a deal is not close at this stage.

So, it looks like any deal for Celtic to sign Dubravka is not close at this moment. But Newcastle United's apparent willingness to part ways with him is a positive update nonetheless.

There were many Celtic fans who have been unconvinced by the idea of signing a 35-year-old goalkeeper. But Dubravka's stellar performance in Slovakia's 1-0 win over Belgium at EURO 2024 must have given them some cause for optimism in case a move did happen.

Someone like Dubravka has the potential to be a solid signing for Celtic. But the 35-year-old Slovakian international would not be a long-term solution between the posts for sure. One can only hope that the club end up signing a couple of goalkeepers this summer, who can compete for the starting spot.
