Celtic are headed towards what is expected to be a pretty busy summer transfer window, no matter how this season ends. Brendan Rodgers' side are still in contention for a double, leading the Premiership title race by three points and in the final of the Scottish Cup. But their results and performances have not impressed fans throughout the campaign. A major reason why they are still ahead in the league is because the Rangers have struggled as well.

So, one would hope that the squad will be strengthened over the course of the summer. And midfield could turn out to be an area in needs of reinforcements.

It is believed that Rodgers wants to add a defensive midfielder to his ranks. That has been a problem position for the club for quite some time now. They have brought in a number of players in that area in recent years without much success. The latest to be linked is Charles Pickel of Cremonese.

As reported by Football Scotland, there is serious interest in signing Pickel from clubs in the English Championship including Leeds United and Preston North End. Celtic would be the player's preferred destination but it remains to be seen if the Scottish giants will firm up any interest for a summer move.

Someone like Pickel would be an interesting signing for Celtic. On one hand, he is currently playing in the Italian second division with Cremonese.

But on the other hand, Pickel does have a ton of experience under his belt from different leagues around Europe. He is also a regular for the DR Congo national team, who reached the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals this year.

It remains to be seen whether Celtic end up making a move for Pickel or not. But it is good to know that he prefers a move to Glasgow.
