Matt O'Riley has been Celtic's best player this season and by some distance as well. While Kyogo has taken a step back since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers as well, Cameron Carter-Vickers has struggled with fitness issues and Reo Hatate has dealt with both, the Danish international has taken his game to the next level.

O'Riley had been a solid performer since his move from MK Dons in the winter of 2022. But he has now added goals to his game, something that had been missing in the past.

His numbers have been great, especially for a midfielder. According to stats from Transfermarkt, O'Riley has scored 9 goals and provided 8 assists in 26 appearances for Celtic this season.

That kind of form has unsurprisingly caught the eye of clubs around Europe. The likes of Inter Milan, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, West Ham United, Atletico Madrid and more have been liked with O'Riley. Will he depart Celtic in the middle of the season though?

As reported by Football Insider, O’Riley wants to remain at Parkhead this January amid Premier League interest. He loves Celtic and is enjoying his football under the management of Rodgers.

That will be music to the ears of Celtic fans. Of course, O'Riley leaving the club in the future seems inevitable but the good thing is that he is not planning to do so in the middle of the campaign. If the Hoops are to make a run for the league in the second half of the season, they will need the Danish international.

Of course, he cannot do it all on his own. Several other players need to step up moving forward after what has been a bad run of form in recent weeks. The Glasgow Derby this weekend is the perfect opportunity to make a statement.
