With another international break as good as over, Celtic fans can look forward to club action returning next weekend. And they certainly have a lot to look forward to. The Hoops will welcome Hearts to Parkhead, as they aim to continue their winning streak at the start of the season. Then, Champions League action will return to Glasgow, with the Hoops taking on Slovan Bratislava in midweek in the new format of the competition.

Of course, Celtic fans had a bit to keep an eye on during the international break as well. Hoops legends took on their Manchester United counterparts in a game at Old Trafford.

It is always nice to see club legends take to the pitch again. A trip down memory lane that the fans appreciate. There's nothing quite as sweet as nostalgia.

One of the players involved on the afternoon was Wayne Rooney. The Manchester United legend turned back the clock by scoring a stunning free-kick but eventually, it was the Celtic legends who came out on top, winning the game on penalties.

Over the weekend, a lot was made of Rooney's soft spot for Celtic. And he admitted that he would have liked to play for the club but it never materialised. As reported by the Mirror, Manchester United's all-time highest goalscorer said:

"Celtic have always been a team I have followed and always wanted them to win.

"Unfortunately, I didn't get the opportunity [to play for Celtic], I would have liked to at some point to try and play for Celtic. I didn't have that chance, it didn't work out. I think they were always special games [against Celtic].

"All the Celtic fans travel in their numbers. To go there to Celtic and experience that atmosphere and that Champions League night was special. It's always special playing against Celtic."

It would have been fantastic to see Rooney in a Celtic jersey. After leaving Manchester United, he had stints at Everton, DC United and even Derby County in the Championship.

A move to Celtic never materialised though. Perhaps it was more about the timing than anything else. It was been several years since Rooney retired and he is now trying to find success in management, and is currently the manager of Plymouth Argyle in the English second division.
