Celtic fans had a lot to cheer about as they won 5-1 against Slovan Bratislava in their UEFA Champions League opener. Most people had Brendan Rodgers' side down as the favourites going into the game but not many could have predicted how one-sided the result would turn out to be. In fact, the Hoops should have scored more with the chances they created. Yet, on can't complain. it is not often that a Scottish team scores five goals in Europe's top club competition.

A video that has been going viral on social media from the game is that of Kasper Schmeichel. The Danish goalkeeper seemed taken aback when the noise from the Parkhead crowd drowned out the Champions League anthem before kick-off.

On the other hand, his father, Peter Schmeichel was on media duty. And while he was covering the Manchester City game, it looks like he would have preferred to see Celtic in action.

Manchester City vs Inter Milan ended in a goalless draw. Schmeichel found it to be a boring game and was not impressed with the atmosphere. As reported by Football Scotland, he said:

"I thought it was a really, really boring game. I'm sorry to say that. I thought Inter did really well in stopping Man City.

"I like good football and I like excitement from the crowd. It was dead. The Etihad today was absolutely dead. The only people we could hear were the Inter supporters who were quite good. But there's no atmosphere in the Etihad today. Normally you'd think 'well, a big European night', but it didn't happen for them."

While speaking to Kate Abdo, Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards afterwards, Schmeichel admitted that he had been trying to watch the Celtic game instead. The Manchester United legend said:

"I'm going to let you in a secret. I spent a lot of time during the first-half trying to connect to something that would make me watch that game as well. The wifi isn't great here. I was reading on live commentary all the way throughout the game."

It would be safe to say that Schmeichel enjoys seeing Celtic play. Of course, he has a personal connection with the club these days with his son replacing Joe Hart in goal over the summer.

Of course, Celtic had a great opening game. But there are tougher tests ahead in the Champions League. The toughest of them will be going away to Germany to take on Borussia Dortmund. That could be a night to remember, with two of world football's best fanbases in attendance. One thing is for sure, atmosphere is not going to be an issue on that occasion.
