Manchester United and Celtic legends are set to take on each other this weekend at Old Trafford. It will be good to see some familiar faces back on the pitch again and hopefully, it will be an enjoyable afternoon out on the park for everyone involved. One of the people involved on the day will be Wayne Rooney.

Rooney is the highest goalscorer in Manchester United history. He is considered one of the best players in the history of English football if not the very best.

He is also known to have a soft spot for Celtic. He has admitted in the past to have followed the Hoops while growing up.

Rooney seems to be looking forward to the game this weekend. He wrote in his column on Manchester United's official website:

"I am certainly looking forward to meeting up with all of the team and sharing great memories of being a Manchester United player.

Furthermore, our opponents, Celtic, are a club that I followed when I was younger. I always look out for them when they are playing.

I've been to a few games and they have got great fans too.

See you on Saturday!"

Rooney was fantastic in the first part of his career. The second part was not nearly as successful as some of his contemporaries like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi though. Once upon a time, the Englishman was considered on that same level. Not many can say that.

Rooney has retired from the game and has moved into management. He has had spells at a few clubs already and currently finds himself managing in the English Championship with Plymouth Argyle, where he has not had the best of starts so far.

It remains to be seen if Rooney is successful in steadying the ship for Plymouth Argyle as the season progresses. If things do not improve for the Championship club soon, it is very possible that he would be shown the exit door.

For now, the focus is on the upcoming legends game between Celtic and Manchester United though. With the international break going on, that could be a great watch.
