Liverpool player makes transfer request after links to Celtic
Celtic fans must be pretty satisfied with how the club's summer transfer business turned out. It might have started slow but eventually, the Hoops did get quite a few impressive deals done. Matt O'Riley leaving was the only significant blow while additions like Arne Engels, Auston Trusty, Adam Idah, Paulo Bernardo, Kasper Schmeichel, Luke McCowan, Alex Valle and Viljami Sinisalo were made.
Going into the summer, the hope was that Celtic would sign a long-term goalkeeper. Instead, Schmeichel was brought in as a free agent.
Some eyebrows were raised for sure but most Celtic fans were open to the prospect of the veteran joining the club, thanks to Joe Hart's success before him. And considering that Schmeichel is yet to concede a league goal after four games, it looks like they made a solid addition between the posts.
Schmeichel is not a long-term addition though. That void between the posts remains unfulfilled. Could Celtic try to sign Caoimhin Kelleher in the future?

Celtic were heavily linked with Kelleher earlier in the summer but nothing concrete materialised. In fact, the Irish goalkeeper remained at Anfield even though the club ended up signing Giorgi Mamardashvili while already having Alisson.
Mamardashvili will spend the season on loan at Valencia. But it seems pretty clear that Kelleher is neither Liverpool's number one goalkeeper in the present nor in the future.
In fact, Kelleher has now publicly stated his desire to go out and be the number one elsewhere. As reported by the Express, he said:
"I made it clear in the last few years that I want to go somewhere and be a number one.
"The club has made that decision to get a goalkeeper (Mamardashvili) which makes it look like they’ve made a decision to go another direction.
"Liverpool have rejected a few bids as well. It’s not always in my hands to fully make the decision. My ambition is clear. I’m good enough and I want to go and play week in, week out."
Kelleher has spent several years at Liverpool, playing as a cover option for Alisson. When given a chance, he has always impressed but the number one spot has always appeared out of reach. Set to turn 26 in November, it is clear why he wants to leave to be a starter elsewhere. And if the opportunity to sign the Republic of Ireland international was there for the right transfer fee, Celtic should definitely consider making a move in the future.
