Celtic have been handing out contract extensions left, right and centre lately. The latest one to agree one is Cameron Carter-Vickers. The American international has agreed a long-term deal with the club. It is five-and-a-half years in length and will see him remain at Parkhead until 2029. That is fantastic news to say the least.

Carter-Vickers is one of a number of players who has put pen to paper on contract extensions with Celtic since the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as manager in the summer. Curiously, one of the club's best performers under the management of the Northern Irishman has not been one of them so far.

Of course, we are talking about Liam Scales. The versatile defender has been a revelation this season and has established himself as a nailed-on starter in Rodgers' team.

Yet, it looks like there has not been much progress when it comes to talks of a contract extension. As reported by Glasgow Times, Scales said:

"There’s been nothing really of note, it's been quiet enough.

"I’m sure that if it happens my agent will be dealing with that and I’ll be playing my games."

Scales offers worrying update about Celtic contract

Scales has been fantastic for Celtic this season and one of their best performers on a consistent basis. Thus, one would hope that he is next in line for a contract extension.

Scales' rise in the team has been unexpected, to say the least. He was nowhere near the starting XI even after pre-season. In fact, most people expected him to leave the club in the summer, having spent the previous season out on loan at Aberdeen. But following a number of injuries at centre-back, he found himself getting a run of games.

Scales took the opportunity with both hands and has not been out of the starting XI since then. And at the moment, it does not look like anyone will displace him either.

Scales does not have a long-term deal with the Hoops though. His current contract runs out in the summer of 2025.
