Celtic have not been as active as they were expected to be coming into the January transfer window. The club seem a lot more relaxed due to their decent run of form lately, which included a Glasgow Derby win at Parkhead to restore their advantage in the Premiership title race over the Rangers. That being said, the Hoops do need to strengthen this month.
Celtic might have won both Glasgow Derbies this season so far but their overall form in the first half of the season was not great. There have been calls for experienced players to be brought in in January but till now, Nicolas Kuhn is the only one to arrive.
On the other hand, quite a few have left. And it looks like Matt O'Riley is drawing interest from some of Europe's best teams.
As reported by Sky Sports, Girona are interested in signing O'Riley this January. Inter Milan have also been linked with the Danish international.
La Liga club want to sign Celtic superstar in January
O'Riley has been fantastic this season. He is one of the few players who has actually improved since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers as manager.
O'Riley has taken his game to the next level in the final third of the pitch. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in 28 appearances this season so far.
He is performing against the top teams as well. He provided assists against Atletico Madrid, Feyenoord and Lazio in the Champions League, and in both the Glasgow Derbies against the Rangers.
Thus, it is not hard to understand why top clubs might be interested in O'Riley. Celtic should not consider letting arguably their best player leave in the middle of the season though, no matter what the offer is.
