The rumours linking Kieran Tierney with a return to Celtic just refuse to go away despite the clear obstacles on the path of any deal taking place. The Scotsman left Glasgow in the summer of 2019 in order to join Arsenal in a £25 million move but he does not seem to have a future at the London club anymore, and spent the season out on loan at Real Sociedad.

It would be no surprise if Tierney left Arsenal on a permanent basis this summer. But the question is, will Celtic be able to make a move happen?

It is expected to take a significant transfer fee to sign Tierney, despite his history of injury problems and lack of a clear role at Arsenal. Also, his wages could prove to be an obstacle as well.

As reported by Football Insider, Tierney would “love” to return to Celtic. It appears that Arsenal are set to listen to offers over the summer. The Hoops are unlikely to be able to afford a permanent deal, while his wages could make a loan move complicated as well. Both parties remain keen on a reunion though.

Kieran Tierney's stance on Celtic return emerges

Tierney being rumoured to be open to a Celtic return should be encouraging for the Hoops. But at the same time, finding a path to making the move happen is not going to be easy.

At this point in time, a loan seems to be the most realistic option. One would expect both Arsenal and Tierney to understand the financial situation of a club like Celtic and make some adjustments accordingly.

If Tierney were to return to Celtic, whether on loan or permanently, it would have to be viewed as a major boost. He would immediately be one of the best at the club.
