Celtic are believed to be on the verge of completing their first signing of January, with the arrival of Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna in a £3 million transfer only believed to be a matter of time. It is a move that has confused many though. There are certainly areas where the Hoops needed to strengthen before the wings. But what if someone important leaves this month?

The likes of Matt O'Riley and Kyogo have been linked with moves away from Celtic in recent times. But it looks like it is Liel Abada, who could possibly head for the exit door.

As reported by Football Insider, there remains the possibility that Abada could leave Celtic before the January window closes as the club finalise the signing of Kuhn. He could opt to move to a new club if an appropriate offer arrives.

It is only recently that Abada returned from an injury. Of course, it goes without saying that his situation at Celtic is complicated right now, unfortunately because of reasons beyond the pitch.

Key Celtic player could leave after Kuhn signing

One has to wonder whether Celtic made the move to sign Kuhn in anticipation of Abada potentially leaving this month. It remains to be seen how things play out.

Abada was signed in the summer of 2021 and while he has not always been a starter for Celtic, he has consistently been an effective player. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 29 goals and provided 21 assists in 108 appearances for the Hoops.

That is an excellent output, especially for a player who has often found himself playing the role of an impact substitute. So, if Abada did end up leaving Celtic in January, it would be a blow for the club and Kuhn would have big boots to fill.
