Celtic are expected to make plenty of signings in this year's summer transfer window while some players could head for the exit door as well. One position which could undergo multiple changes is centre-back. The futures of Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki are up in the air, even though both are still in their first seasons at Parkhead.

On the other hand, centre-back is seen as a position where Celtic could and perhaps should improve. Liam Scales has featured there heavily this season but his performances have not impressed everyone.

Scales could do with some competition at the very least. And Jake Clarke-Salter of Queens Park Rangers is believed to be one of the players on Celtic's radar.

Clarke-Salter has been one of the best centre-backs in the English Championship this season. Before that, he was at Chelsea for many years and some comments made by John Terry following his first-team debut have re-emerged recently.

Terry had claimed that Clarke-Salter reminded him of himself and hoped that he went on to take his position in the first team. As reported by The Standard back in 2016, the former Chelsea captain had said:

"Jake has a great attitude. I remember watching him a couple of years ago being in control of the game and a really vocal player. He reminds me a bit of myself.

“He is doing great and I hope he goes on to take my position and get in the first team. It was great for him to make his debut. I was disappointed I wasn’t there to support him because I missed the game [through injury]. But watching it from home, I was delighted."

That just goes on to show how highly Clarke-Salter was regarded while coming through the ranks at Chelsea that Terry viewed him as a potential replacement for himself in the team. He made his professional debut against Aston Villa at 18 years of age but would go on to play just two more times for the Blues.

Clarke-Salter ultimately left Chelsea in 2022 and joined QPR, where he has finally found his feet in the senior game and is making a name for himself in the Championship. Celtic are not the only club believed to be interested in the 26-year-old centre-back.
