Celtic fans are used to seeing the club's best players leave. While that does not make it any easier there is an understanding that it could happen any summer if the right offer arrives. At the moment, it looks like there is a ton of interest in the signature of Matt O'Riley. The Danish international seems to be drawing the interest of some of Europe's top clubs.
Atletico Madrid tried and failed to sign him in January. Now, the Spanish club seem to be closing in on signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea and it looked like that could end up having a domino effect on O'Riley's future at Celtic Park.
There were rumours that Chelsea had identified O'Riley as a possible replacement for Gallagher. And it is not hard to see why that might be the case.
Chelsea have some high-profile players in midfield right now in Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo but not enough goals or assists. On the other hand, O'Riley is brilliant at both scoring and setting up his teammates.
Fresh Matt O'Riley to Chelsea update amid Celtic exit links
There is some positive news for Celtic fans regarding this situation though. As tweeted by Ryan Taylor, Chelsea do not hold an interest in O'Riley.
While a move to Chelsea might not be on the cards for O'Riley, that does not mean that he will not be leaving Celtic this summer. Atalanta have made multiple transfer bids for him already and one would expect other clubs to make attempts to sign the Danish midfielder as well.
One can only hope that O'Riley is open to the idea of staying on at Celtic and working with Brendan Rodgers one more year. His game clearly improved immensely under the Northern Irishman's management and with the Hoops already looking much more convincing than last season, those numbers can go up further this time around.
