Celtic were also linked with Fabio Silva in recent weeks as well but the Portuguese youngster has joined the Rangers on loan for the second half of the season, having struggled to make an impression at Wolves. Expectations are high around Ibrox though for a player the Premier League club had shelled out a £35 million transfer fee to sign from FC Porto.

Suggestions have also emerged since then that Celtic did not really make a push to sign Silva. Instead, they have their eyes on other transfer targets. Hopefully, they work out better than most of the summer signings.

Coming back to Silva, the Portuguese player appeared to take a bit of a dig at Celtic following his announcement as a Rangers player. He seems to view the Ibrox club as the best team in Scotland.

As reported by the Daily Record, Silva said while talking on Rangers TV:

"It was amazing. Everyone knows I had other options from other clubs, but when I saw the option to come to Rangers on loan I was very happy. It was my first option straight away.

"I like to win titles, play at big clubs and feel the pressure straight away and to play in big competitions. To come here, for me, when we spoke about Scotland for me Rangers was the best team here.

"So I want to be here, to play with the fans and for my teammates and to win titles - that is the most important thing."

Silva might have made a £35 million move to Wolves but he has not even come close to meeting expectations since then. There have been decent loan spells at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven but nothing extraordinary. Let's see how things turn out for him at Ibrox. He will officially join them from January 1 so the Portuguese forward will not be a part of this weekend's Glasgow Derby.

As for Celtic, they need to add to their options up top as well. They have been linked with youngsters like Mathias Kvistgaarden and Syndey van Hooijdonk as well as bit more experienced players like Bojan Miovski and Lawrence Shankland.

The latter two would be more reliable options as they are already proven in the Scottish Premiership. But it would not be simple to sign players from rivals in the middle of the season.
