Unless something unexpected happens, Kasper Schmeichel looks set to be a Celtic player soon. The news has emerged today and not many had seen it coming. While the Danish number one had been linked with a move to Parkhead and a reunion with Brendan Rodgers, there were other goalkeepers who seemed to be far ahead of him in the Hoops' search for Joe Hart's replacement.

But it looks like Celtic have decided to go with someone who brings a similar level of experience and leadership to the table. Schmeichel might be 37 years of age but he recently captained the Denmark national team at EURO 2024.

Of course, Schmeichel's biggest successes came at Leicester City, where he won the Premier League and the FA Cup. Since leaving the Foxes, he has played for Nice in France and Anderlecht in Belgium, playing regularly for both while he was there.

Now, it looks like Schmeichel is on the verge of a return to Scottish football. Yes, many might not know or have forgotten that he had a spell at Falkirk.

It looks like a deal is over the line. As tweeted by Scott Burns, Schmeichel has agreed a one-year deal with Celtic.

Of course, most Celtic fans would have wanted the club to bring in someone who could be the long-term solution between the posts. But after the success that Hart had at the club over the past three seasons, it is easy to see why the Hoops might be looking to stick to the veteran goalkeeper formula.

Let's see how things play out from here. Of course, one cannot rule out the possibility of Celtic signing another goalkeeper this summer. There has been plenty of talk about Benjamin Seigrist potentially leaving the club in this window.
