Truth be told, there was a decent bit of positivity amongst Celtic fans ahead of their game against Borussia Dortmund. The Scottish champions had won all nine of their matches leading up to their trip to Signal Iduna Park. That included a 5-1 win in their Champions League opener vs Slovan Bratislava. What unfolded was a nightmare for Hoops fans.

Borussia Dortmund won 7-1 against Celtic. Karim Adeyemi scored a hattrick. And to be very honest, Celtic did not look like a Champions League team based on this display.

They were simply too naive, leaving tons of space for the Borussia Dortmund forwards. The problem is, Celtic's defenders did not have the pace to recover when caught out of position and it was a walk in the park for the German club at times.

Chris Sutton, who is known to be honest in his assessment of games, made no excuses for his former club. He tweeted out:

Unfortunately, this sort of away performance has become a bit of the norm for Celtic in the Champions League. It had felt like they were turning over to a new page this season, but now, it is back to square one for Brendan Rodgers' side.

One can only hope that this result does not dent their confidence moving forward. Celtic had played so well until this match. They cannot let this 7-1 defeat have an effect on their upcoming matches.

Yes, it was a terrible day at the office. One of the all-time worst displays in Celtic history. But at the end of the day, it was just one game. They can still make it to the playoff phase. And there are three trophies to play for domestically. It is not the time to feel sorry for ourselves.
