Chelsea reportedly interested in Celtic superstar
The hope coming into this summer transfer window was that Celtic would make significant additions to their squad. The club have been very patient in that regard though, yet to make their first signing. On the other hand, plenty of players have departed Parkhead already and more could follow them out the exit door over the coming weeks.
Sead Haksabanovic and Rocco Vata are the two who have already completed permanent exits this summer. And it would be somewhat of a surprise if O'Riley does not do the same at some point over the coming months.
O'Riley has been linked with clubs like Atletico Madrid, Atalanta, Inter Milan and Manchester United in recent times. And now, it looks like another high-profile club are in the race for his signature.
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic now expect O'Riley to depart although the club are holding out for a transfer fee of £25 million to £30 million. Sources with knowledge of the player's situation have said that Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion are keen on the midfielder as well.
Chelsea reportedly interested in Celtic superstar
Chelsea signed players left, right and centre in the previous two seasons, following a change in ownership. But this summer, things seem a lot tighter at Stamford Bridge. Despite their clear needs in certain positions, they are yet to make any significant additions.
On the other hand, Brighton & Hove Albion appeared to take a step back last season. It remains to be seen if they can progress back up the Premier League table in the upcoming campaign, with a new manager in place.
As for Celtic, the best-case scenario would be O'Riley staying on at the club for another season. But considering the level of the teams seemingly interested in signing him, that is unlikely.
