Celtic will need to sign a goalkeeper in the summer. Joe Hart, who has been their number one for the previous three seasons, will be retiring from football after this campaign. The club have Scott Bain and Benjamin Siegrist in their ranks as well but neither should be handed the first-team gloves. In fact, both of them might end up departing themselves.

Bain's current deal runs out at the end of the season. On the other hand, Siegrist was heavily linked with a move away from Celtic in the previous two transfer windows, even though it did not transpire.

Celtic have been linked with a few goalkeepers in recent times. Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool and Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid are the two most high-profile names on that list. Now, it looks like another one has been added.

As reported by Gunebakis, Celtic, who have carried out a comprehensive study from many different regions of the world, have included Trabzonspor's goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir on their list. The Scottish club know that the Turkish team do not want to give up easily on their captain.

Celtic want Turkish international to replace Joe Hart

There are plenty of reasons for Celtic to try and sign someone like Cakir. Firstly, he is a full Turkish international and has been regularly involved with the national team.

Secondly, he is the current captain of Trabzonspor. When it comes to replacing Hart, Celtic will need to find a way to replace his leadership qualities as well.

And thirdly, Cakir is 27 years of age. The means that he is entering his prime as a football and can be Celtic's starting goalkeeper for a long time to come. That is the kind of long-term stability in goal that the Hoops have been looking for for quite a while.
