It is clear that Celtic need to sign a long-term goalkeeper sooner or later. There are no two ways about it. Joe Hart is their current number one and his performances have been under the microscope for quite some time now. The Englishman is also in the final year of his contract and will turn 37 before the end of this season.

No matter which way you look at it, Hart is not Celtic's long-term goalkeeper. He has had a solid run since arriving in 2021 from Tottenham Hotspur and done better than most people expected. But the time to part ways is not far away.

It remains to be seen who Celtic end up signing as Hart's replacement. Neither Benjamin Siegrist nor Scott Bain is the answer.

As tweeted by Dr. Football Podcast, Celtic are one of the numerous clubs interested in Hakon Valdimarsson. Anderlecht and Gent are also interested in the Iceland number one but unwilling to pay the €2.5 million transfer fee IF Elfsborg want.

Celtic have pre-existing contacts with IF Elfsborg. It was only in the summer that they signed Gustaf Lagerbielke from the club.

Of course, that move did not turn out as well as they would have been hoping for and the Swedish centre-back is already being linked with an exit. But that does not mean that Valdimarsson could not be a solid signing.

The Iceland number one is a very highly-rated goalkeeper. He is also just 22 years of age. Thus, he has a lot of attributes to be a long-term success at Celtic, if a move does happen.

Celtic should not have much problem shelling out a €2.5 million transfer fee, if they are convinced about Valdimarsson's quality. Let's see how things play out over the next few weeks.
