Celtic have a very important summer transfer window coming on. The general feeling is that the squad is not balanced at the moment. The club have signed way too many youngsters, who have failed to make a mark on the team, and need to bring in some proven quality and experience. They are light on options in a few positions as well.

One of them is left-back. Greg Taylor is the only real option that Celtic have in the position after Alexandro Bernabei left on loan to SC Internacional.

And to be honest, Bernabei was never really competing for a starting spot while he was at the club. Taylor has pretty much been an automatic selection whenever he has been fit and available.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are planning to sign a full-back this summer. The Hoops are keen to bolster this position ahead of next season and Brendan Rodgers would like to reinforce his wide defensive positions if the club's budget allows it. Bernabei's future is “uncertain”.

Rumours had suggested that signing a new left-back had been a priority in the winter transfer window. But unexpectedly, they did not end up doing so.

On the contrary, Celtic's options were further decreased when Bernabei left. As a result, if Taylor was to pick up an injury or a suspension, Anthony Ralston would have to take his place in the team as a makeshift left-back. That is not ideal when you are trying to compete for trophies at the business end of the season.

So, one can only hope that Celtic end up signing a new left-back in the summer transfer window. Taylor is in need of some competition. His performances earlier on in the campaign were heavily criticised but he has certainly gotten better over time.
