Celtic want to sign £8 million Bournemouth player
Most of the recent talk surrounding Celtic has been about goalkeepers. It is not hard to understand why. The club need to find a replacement for Joe Hart, who retired at the end of the 2023/24 season, after spending three trophy-laden years in Glasgow. It goes without saying that they need to replace him between the posts.
There are other positions where Celtic need to strengthen as well. One of them is believed to be centre-back.
Liam Scales was Celtic's most regular centre-back last season. There are many who believe that he is not the long-term answer as a starter though. On the other hand, Cameron Carter-Vickers has dealt with plenty of fitness problems in recent times.
Thus, it would not be a surprise if Celtic tried to add another centre-back to their ranks this summer. And it seems like they have a Premier League player in their sights.
Celtic want to sign £8 million Bournemouth player
As reported by the Daily Mail (via BBC) Celtic have added Wales centre-half Chris Mepham to their list of summer signing targets. He would command a transfer fee of about £8 million heading into the final year of his Bournemouth contract,
Mepham did not get to play a lot of football last season. And with just a year left on his deal, it would make sense for both parties to part ways at this point in time.
Mepham might not have played a lot of football last season but he has been a regular for Bournemouth in the past. He has also featured many times for the Wales national team. At 26 years of age, he should be entering his prime years on the pitch as well. So, all things considered, he could be a decent addition to Celtic but only for the right transfer fee.
